Muhammad's Letter to Christian Monks
Going completely against what “Islamic” terrorists have done in the name of religion and politics, the Ashtiname of Muhammad, also known as the Covenant or Testament of Muhammad, is a document which is a charter by Prophet Muhammad granting protection and other privileges to the followers of Jesus the Nazarene, given to the Christian monks of Saint Catherine’s Monastery. It is sealed with an imprint representing Muhammad’s hand.
Ashtiname is a Persian word meaning The Book of Peace. This letter contains an oath given by Prophet Muhammad to the Christian Monks of Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Egypt, in which it is mentioned that he who disobeys the Covenant will be considered a disbeliever and a transgressor of Islam.
Here is an English translation of Muhammad’s letter:
“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.
Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by God! I hold out against anything that displeases them.
No compulsion is to be on them.
Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.
No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses.
Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.
No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.
The Muslims are to fight for them.
If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.
Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.
Whenever Christian monks, devotees and pilgrims gather together, whether in a mountain, valley, den, plain or church, verily we are at the back of them, and shall protect them and their property.
They shall not be imposed or forced to go to war, for the Muslims will fight for them.
They shall live favored and protected from everything which may offend them by the callers of Islam wherever they may be and in any place they may dwell.
Their Churches must be honored.
The Muslims must protect the Christians and defend them against others.
It is incumbent upon every one of the followers of Islam not to contradict or disobey this Oath until the Day of Resurrection and the End of the World.”
These are the words of Prophet Muhammad which have been preserved for more than 1400 years in the St. Catherine’s Monastery in Egypt. His instructions as a Leader of the Islamic Community, mandate full protection of Christians from any act of aggression from Muslims.
